Why Our Members Never Go Back to Ordinary Drinks
It was a Wednesday in October — the kind of grey, drizzling Wednesday that demands something extraordinary happen or else the whole affair is wasted. Two friends sat in a cramped kitchen with a bucket of wildflower honey, a secondhand fermentation vessel, and an argument about whether traditional mead had been done justice by modern hands.
It had not, they agreed. And so Bear & Bulldog Meadworks was born — and hasn't stopped winning fans since.
Bear brought patience, an encyclopaedic knowledge of fermentation science, and an absolutely unreasonable commitment to sourcing only the finest honey. Bulldog brought energy, a nose for flavour combinations that shouldn't work but gloriously do, and the business acumen to ensure these magnificent obsessions could actually reach thirsty hands.
Our Sacred Conviction
For too long, mead has been treated as a curiosity — a novelty for Viking-themed events and Renaissance fairs. We are here, with great confidence and a full glass, to set the record straight. Mead is the oldest fermented drink known to humanity, and in our hands, it has never been more alive.
Discover the ElixirsEvery batch begins with wildflower honey sourced from small apiaries within 50 miles. The honey dictates the character. We merely guide it.
Rushing mead is a crime against nature. Our meads ferment slowly, condition thoroughly, and are released only when they are ready — not when the calendar demands it.
We tell you exactly what's in every bottle, where the honey came from, and how long it rested. No mystery ingredients. No corporate obfuscation. Just honesty in a glass.
From that cramped kitchen, Bear & Bulldog Meadworks has grown into a proper meadery — still small, still obsessively hands-on, and still constitutionally incapable of cutting corners. Every batch is numbered. Every bottle is a declaration of intent.
We are building something for the long game: a membership guild of fellow enthusiasts who believe that drinking well is one of life's genuine pleasures, and that the finest things deserve to be savoured slowly, shared generously, and appreciated deeply.
The best is very much still to come. We should be delighted to have you along for the journey.
